Understanding our community's housing needs and developing actionable solutions
Lake City and Hinsdale County face significant challenges in providing affordable and workforce housing. As Colorado's most remote county with 96% federally owned land, median home prices of $563,000, and 65% of housing units being second homes, our community requires tailored housing solutions that address our unique circumstances.
Our project will identify housing needs, develop strategies for both new construction and preservation, identify funding opportunities, and create a clear roadmap to address housing challenges. We're focusing on practical solutions that can be implemented in our unique mountain community context.
Your input is essential to this process. Through surveys, public meetings, and ongoing engagement, we're working to ensure that housing solutions reflect the real needs of our community. The Lake Fork Project is a planned housing development on Henson Street that will be a key focus of this housing plan. The project is supported by a DOLA grant under the More Housing Now (MHN) program, and our team will be working to develop feasible financing and implementation strategies to bring this project to fruition.
The Comprehensive Affordable Housing Plan is scheduled to be completed by the end of the year. However, our approach focuses on implementation throughout the process, meaning that actionable steps and strategies will be developed and potentially implemented before the final plan is delivered.
